Growing up, my family called me “Worker Bee”. If there was a job to do, I usually did it, and I did it well. I learned to feel valuable and make my mark in this life by doing, doing, doing. As I grew up and starting leading at church and school, I continued to be a do-er, and to get my value from what I did and accomplished. I definitely got a lot done, but as I look back over those years, my heart was damaged by the lie I believed – that I am only valuable because of what I can accomplish. I found that when I couldn’t perform well, I distanced myself from God & others and my heart was broken time after time. Doing things for God does not equal being fruitful. I still struggle with this at times. Yet I’m learning to walk with God, abiding in Him, receiving His life, and experiencing what true fruitfulness is.
A fruitful woman is connected to God, and His life flows through her and out of her. She is a life-giver, and being in her presence is life-giving. As you might imagine, the most fruitful women I have met are not frantic, frazzled, women. They may have an incredible amount of responsibility and a ton to get done, but they walk in a peace and calmness that you can almost feel. They naturally deposit LIFE wherever they go, with words, actions, prayer, and with the Presence that they bring with them. You could live an incredibly fruitful life by waking up each morning and saying to God,
“My heart is overflowing with gratefulness towards you! I will serve you with gladness! What have you put in my heart to do? Holy Spirit lead me today.”
There is nothing “forced “about fruitfulness. A tree does not have to “work” to produce fruit, it simply stands and drinks up the water, nutrients and sunlight and fruit naturally comes out of that tree. That’s how fruit happens in our lives too. We were made to be productive, and that’s exactly what happens when we grasp our importance to God. The truth is that when we are abiding in Him, His kingdom comes in our life and to those around us. Scripture tells us that the kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. People who know they are righteous and are full of peace and joy are people who contribute to life and sow into those around them!
Jesus said, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; APART FROM ME YOU CAN DO NOTHING.” Well, nothing of lasting value at least. God will be glorified when you pursue the things that he has put in your heart to do!
So, when the Spirit puts someone on my heart, I pray for them! That’s fruitfulness. When I spend time taking care of myself, God gets the glory! Whether I open my home and serve a meal to someone, give a generous gift, send an encouraging text, or spend time playing with my daughter to show her that she’s important, that’s fruitfulness. When I care for my husband and home, laugh with friends, or go to work and do my job well, more fruit! Anytime love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness & self-control spill out of my life, that can only be because I’m connected to the Spirit of God.
What a blessing to walk with the Women at Harvest. Thank you God for making us fruitful, life-giving women!
