Darla Carthel is married to her high school sweetheart, Jack. They have been married for 37 years, and have attended the HCF Amarillo campus since 2010. We have 3 grown and married children, 6 great kids, and 18 fantastic grandkids. “I remember in high school when friends would talk with excitement about the end times, that I wasn’t ready for the end to come. I wanted to marry, have children, and know my grandchildren. I wanted a quiver full of them as spoken of in Psalm 127:3-5, and would tell the Lord so. The Lord has heard me. I am blessed. My quiver is full.” Darla loves painting, reading, and hanging out with family and friends.
What books have changed your life?
The book Marriage on the Rock by Jimmy Evans had a strong impact on our lives. It broadened our perspective and jump started us in the ministry when we began leading small group semesters based on the book’s curriculum. The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson has also had a strong influence on me, prompting me to pray in a different way. The spoken word is powerful, and God’s Word is always true.
If you could escape all your responsibilities, where would you go?
If I wanted rest and relaxation, it would be to the beach with my husband. If I was to have my dream vacation, I would take all of my kids and grandkids to Disney World, and stay long enough to see all of the parks, but not so long as to wear out our welcome; and then maybe that trip to the beach.
